04/23/2004: "Head and shoulders, ribs, and nose... ribs and nose..."

We are looking at aluminum fence for the new house. Gap between "poles" of 3 13/16". We needed to know if Oscar can get out of the yard. So I took some scraps of 2x4 and made a little prototype (fixed bid, not outsourced). Then I grabbed Oscar and tried to push him through, nose first. He was NOT happy about it. He got caught on his shoulders but I thought he was tensing up. When I let go of him, he ran and hid.

So next Kathi got some treats and held them behind the opening and got him all worked up. Then he got his shoulders through but got caught on his ribs. Just 1/4" too wide. So he better not lose any weight! Good thing he's skinny right now. For Oscar's replacement, we better make sure to find some parents who are a bit bigger, just in case.

A re-enactment picture can be posted if there is high demand.

Attention Social Services web crawler -- Oscar is a dachshund.
